Now for some tips:

As a beginner-WHERE DO I START?

First of all you need a good playing guitar. This does not mean expensive. I recommend that if you do not already have a guitar, just buy an inexpensive but good playing guitar. Why? At this point you probably have one all picked out that looks cool and the ad says you can do miracles with it. Please take my advice and save your money, because I can guarantee you that after you learn to play, you will know exactly which one you want, and it won't be that one. Now if money is no object, then do what you want, but BE SURE IT PLAYS WELL.

Second, I suggest you start with an acoustic guitar. Why? Human nature will have us spending most of our time setting the amp, twisting knobs and making exotic sounds, rather than spending quality time learning the basics on the instrument itself. I hate to bust your bubble, but if you want to play well and enjoy a lifetime of guitar, just spending a pile of money on equipment WILL NOT MAKE YOU A GOOD PLAYER.

Now is the time to decide what you want

1- If you would like to buy an electric guitar and an amp (amplifier) and make wild sounds, and enjoy it for a season, go for it with my blessing. But, you will be sorry later if you want to learn the right way to play. It is easier to learn the right way first than have to get rid of bad technique and habits later.

2- Learn all the basics, on a basic guitar first, then get the guitar of your choice and enjoy guitar for the rest of your life. Oh, you young folks might not want to show this page to your parents till you decide which way you want to go. (Could spoil that new guitar purchase you talked them into)
